Meander Iron Bench, Italy, 1980s

A bench built from a single architectural gesture. The Greek key is one of the oldest continuous forms in architecture, surviving not because it is decorative, but because it is endlessly adaptable. Here, it repeats without insistence, becoming less an ornament than a rhythm that structures the entire piece. There is a mythological quality to forms that endure. As they pass through centuries, they accumulate meanings beyond their original function, becoming part of our shared visual memory. Graphic, restrained, and unexpectedly contemporary, this bench possesses the rare ability to anchor a space without demanding attention.
