Rosewood folding table by Bendt Winge, Norway 1960s.

Designed by Bendt Winge and produced in Norway during the 1960s, this elegant folding dining table is a refined example of Scandinavian modernism at its most intelligent and sculptural. The table perfectly reflects the Nordic design ethos of the period: architectural clarity, honest materials, and ingenious functionality. When folded, it forms a compact, almost sculptural volume, with beautifully shaped side panels featuring Winge’s characteristic elongated oval cut-outs — a subtle yet distinctive design signature. In its closed state, the piece reads as a refined console or occasional table. When extended, it transforms into a generous dining table. The carefully engineered folding mechanism is both practical and visually light, supported by slender legs and cross-stretchers that ensure stability while maintaining elegant proportions. The rosewood veneer displays rich, expressive grain patterns in deep, warm tones — a hallmark of high-quality Norwegian craftsmanship from the 1960s. The balanced construction and subtle detailing demonstrate Winge’s sensitivity to both form and function. Measurements: H 73.5 x W 21 – 149 x D 88 cm
